Artificial Intelligence
AI - Artificial Intelligence has been a hot topic ever since it appeared. It is a part of computer science which builds a system by integrating human ability with computer technology. I remember reading a magazine during preparatory school about AI. Back then, AI wasn't so popular and it was less used in daily life than now. Therefore, it felt like an advanced technology for me but now, it is so easy to find places which used AI and the technology and the field is growing rapidly.
The term Artificial Intelligence is first coined in 1956 by John McCarthy but even before that, the concept of AI was discussed in many places. The interest towards AI was consistently growing in various parts of the world. Using AI, solving complicated problems with computers became possible and this was quite an innovation.
I think that the real turning point of AI was when the concept of 'Deep Learning' first appeared. Deep Learning can be simply described as a computer learning things by itself with given information. For example, when a programmer teaches the program a basic way to play a certain game, a deep learning system will understand the game's system and develop its skill by trying many possible ways. One representative of this is AlphaGo by Google Deep Mind. Now, due to AI's standing out ability, pro-gammers train with AI which is a bit ironic.
For successful deep learning, the collection of data is crucial. In the case of Tesla, they collect data from all over the world using customers' cars that move around the road. There are about 2 million Tesla cars on the road currently which provides Tesla with the data they need. With this data collected, they develop the Autopilot program which allows cars to drive by themselves. Google also uses data collected by AI in improving search results.
It is true that AI is widely used in our life nowadays. However, there are some worries too. Many people are worried that AI will be able to think on its own completely and become out of control. Recently, there was an incident where a Chess robot broke a boy's finger during a game. It is difficult to say that the robot intended the violence but it is clear that safe measurements for using AI should be implemented. Both good and bad should be looked at carefully.
